Called to order at 1:34pm and adjourned at 2:32pm.

Minutes Approval: 1/27/09

Connie identified an error in the sentence regarding the council meeting schedule, which was corrected.   Connie motioned to approve the minutes as amended.  Ann seconded.   Unanimous approval.

Cares

Angela reported on behalf of William that Janelle met with Mike Casey to discuss legal concerns regarding Cares activities, and that Janelle provided William a brief report.  Mike advised to encourage reasonable activities, and specified that any activities involving children require adult supervision.

Heads Up Gonzaga

Marcia reported that Fr. Spitzer's office has yet to provide a date in March, and it's possible we may need to have the event in April.

University Presidential Search

Bill asked for thoughts and reactions regarding the email announcement as to the status of the search and the conversation about a COO position.   Comments included:

-          A COO could help the president be more successful with the fundraising responsibility.

-          If the COO includes a reorganization of the VP positions, specifically the Administration and Planning role, could be better management of the university.

-          If the COO would be an added position, the financial impact could mean changes in ability to fund the budget next year, so it's a concern as to the reasonableness of this action given the economy.

-          It would have been helpful for Staff Assembly to have a representative on the search committee. 

Performance Management Sessions

Ann attended one of the information and discussion sessions about the new self and performance evaluation forms.  She shared that newly revised forms were reviewed and discussed.  The training sessions required for supervisors will address how to manage subjectivity.  Marcia stated that HR encouraged feedback from the community.

Council Meetings are the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 1:30-3pm in the Road to Bali Room in Crosby.  

Action Items
Angela send approved minutes to Outreach Committee for distribution.

Angela invite Janelle to next meeting for Cares Inititative update.
