Monthly Socials Update – Krystal Burns
Outreach committee has reviewed the timing and participation of the monthly socials – second Wednesday of each month at 2:30 in Crosby, and the second Thursday of the month at 7:10am and 8:10pm in Plant Services. Because the crowd depends to be the same core people, and the support is typically the same volunteers. Krystal suggested we are not getting participation from people working in Jepson, the Law School, and maybe it would be best to take the socials to other locations. Costs need to be evaluated as well. Continue discussion on Blackboard in order to propose a solution at the next SAEC meeting.
Conversations on Mission – Maribeth Charleboix
Schedule has been created for the next few months.
March 18 at 10am and 12pm – Faith, featuring Fr. Rick Ganz
April 15, time TBA – Leadership featuring Dr. Josh Armstrong
May 20, time TBA – Ethics featuring Dr. Mike Stebbins
Raymond expressed his willingness to offer a session in the Fall, possibly teaming with Sima. Angela and William shared that the late shift people are willing to come in at 4pm for an event, and encouraged the committee to set future sessions at the later time.
Climate Survey – Raymond Reyes
Raymond and Dan Bubb attended the previous executive council meeting to explain the intention for and history of the climate assessment effort. Raymond’s hope is that we can see if what Gonzaga says about itself is something that can be collectively stated. Student survey was 30% yield, considered a good return. Faculty expressed concern about the length, and so the document will be reduced down to about 35 items (from 160) at their request. Incentives will be offered to survey completion for faculty and staff, such as were offered for the students. Current structure is segmented into these categories: Acceptance, Values, Attitudes, Experiences, Experiences of Diversity, Behaviors, University Policies, Boundaries, Open-ended. Staff Assembly is invited to help customize the questions for each section. The survey results will lead to other activities which have yet to be determined, such as focus groups. Raymond asked the executive council to consider what we want to know, why, and to consider what incentives will be attractive for staff.
Raymond called for a smaller work group: one person from the compensation committee, to be determined, William Gibson, a member of the HR team, Kim Gieber. Meetings would be set once availability of the group is determined, and the group would establish the timeline.
Action Items
