Staff Assembly Meeting Minutes

October 18, 2006

Members present:  Shelly, Abe, William, Ann-Scott, Jill, Brady, Tim, Rick and Connie

Items discussed:

I.  Strategic Plan

The Strategic Planning Committee and Thayne want feedback from all employees.  How can we get this message out to all staff:  i.  Email all staff informing them of where they could get a copy of the Strategic Plan or where to find it on the University Web page.  ii.  Leave copies in prominent places; Plant, Library, COG, Admin Staff lounge, etc with feedback cards.

II.  Anniversary Gifts for Next Year

At our last meeting we decided to give $10 Bulldog bucks next year for anniversary gifts and also discussed letting staff opt to give their $10.00 to charity if they didn't’t want the Bulldog bucks.  But we can’t donate to charity so if people don’t want the Bulldog bucks they can just opt out. 

Milestone Gifts:  There was discussion about/review of the milestone gifts.  We would like to, at some point, meet with the Outreach Committee and look at the catalogue ~ perhaps suggest some changes (including the addition of Stadium blankets, the possibility of Basketball tickets and the possibility of bonus vacation days.)

III.  Shelly’s meeting with Fr. Spitzer

Fr. Spitzer agreed to additional funding for weekly Staff Appreciation “treat trays” (donuts, fruit, sweets, etc) to be delivered to different departments each week. Fr. Spitzer also agreed to fund the Staff Award for Outstanding Service in Support of the Mission.  4 awards each year.  Each award worth approximately $120.00 - $20.00 plaque and $100 gift certificate(s).  2 awards given out at each of the Fall and Spring Mtgs.  Nominations can be by any member of the Gonzaga community; no self-nominations.  Nomination form needs to be crafted.  Criteria discussed:  Service can take place on or off the campus; Need more discussion to finalize nomination process, criteria and how award recipients will be chosen.

IV.  Information for Spirit Publication

Marny Lombard wants to feature an article about staff in the next issue of Spirit.  The new Staff Award/Service in Support of the Mission would make a good topic.

V.  Budget

The additional $5000.00 for this year has been approved.

Staff Assembly meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Crosby Student Center, Road to Zanzibar Room.

All Gonzaga staff are welcome to attend.
