Staff Assembly Executive CouncilMinutes
September 14, 2004
Greenan Room, Foley Library 12:00 – 1:00p.m.
Members Present:Marcia Bertholf, Krystal Burns, Mary Beth Charleboix, StaceyChatman, Kim Gieber, Jane Hession, Gail Jennings, Brady Nielson,Janice Resch, Erin Shields, Trevor Werttemberger.
Called to order at 12:05 p.m. by President Krystal Burns
Community ServiceOutreach Update: Marcia reports that we will be working with Habitat for Humanity tobuild a house on November 11th. To coordinate volunteers,Marcia is working with the staff and faculty, Trevor Werttembergeris working with the alumni and Mike Renes is working with thestudent body. Detailson the day are as follows:
· We will be working on a house that is in the 2nd week ofthe building process.
· Neither Gonzaga nor Habitat will be responsible for any injuriesthat could occur, so wavers must be signed.
· Volunteers will work on 3 or 3.5 hour shifts.
· We will need 40 volunteers per day.
· Dale Goodwin is putting the event in the October Spirit and PeteTormey may get a news release.
· The possible house site is at Boone and Madelia.
· When the program is complete, we will compile a report to presentto Fr. Spitzer, stating how many volunteers were involved.
· Trevor suggests we hold a BBQ to follow the event, thankingeveryone involved.
Close EncountersDiversity Program: Marcia proposes the question: “To keeppromoting these programs, do we want to cover some of theirexpenses?†Some of theexpenses we could cover would be food, the printing costs for thepassports, and/or tapes of the programs that can be held in thelibrary.
· Janice suggests that the university should be funding theseprograms because these are causes they should be committed to.
· Mary Beth suggests that HR should be funding these programs,because when program topics were being chosen, they were told ithad to go through HR.
· Jane Hession suggests that we inquire where the trail ofcommunication has led up to this point, regarding the funding forthese programs, and that should help us determine how to goforward.
United Way Campaign:Marcia explains that Nancy Masingale and her committee needhelp with the United Way Fundraising Campaign. Janice offers toask CorporateExpress for a donation of envelopes and labels to send out thepledge materials forthe campaign.
Staff Regent PositionUpdate: Krystalreports that she and Trevor met with Thayne regarding thenon-exempt trustee representative position. It is important to get theword out about this position and have at least three candidates toput forward.
The Status of The By Lawsexamination: Asfar as the terminology issue is concerned, Krystal states thatwe can do a better job saying who we represent through ourcommunication.

By virtue of the bylaws,all Staff Assembly meetings are open unless otherwise designated bythe Executive Council. Everyone is welcome to attend. Meetingsoccur every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 12PM – 1PM inthe 1898 Room of the Administration Building.
