· We want to work more at promoting community
· We need to make sure the news of our programs and events get out toall areas of campus
· We need to review the By Laws to make sure they representeveryone. We arelooking at reviewing two words: “administrative†and“administrationâ€. A sub committee will be formed to review the ByLaws.
Member’s comments andthoughts on the planning day:

· Linda Sue: “We looked at how we are perceived, and it made us askourselves what our focus is.â€
· Krystal: “The consensus is to ask Shirley back to one of ourmeetings as a follow up.â€
Head’s Up Gonzaga:Father Spitzer inquires about the upcoming Heads Up and Marciareports that Heads Up is still in the beginning of the planningprocess, but we intend to have Joe Albert return as speaker for theevent.
Lottery Gifts: Linda Sue reports that shespoke with a representative from Northtown Mall and foundthat some stores in the mall will hand cash back as change fora gift certificate. Because of this, we will not be able to givea Northtown certificate as the September lottery gift. A certificate for a carwash, along with a parking pass and/or gas card will be thegift for September. Agift card to Target or Shopko was suggested for December, because they do not give cash back and it could be very usefulfor holiday shopping.
Staff AssemblyPicnic: Fr. Spitzer thanks the Executive Council for asuccessful picnic. He commented that the bouncing castle was a nicetouch. Ideas for next year include a dunk tank.
CompensationCommittee: Krystalasks Father Spitzer about current compensation developments. Fr. Spitzer explains thatthe committee made up a list of schools that Gonzaga will becompared to, to get ideas of the different models they work with.Sam McKnight will present how comparable schools handlecompensation issues, and what works for them and what doesn’t, andthey will use the information to help determine what could begood ideas and solutions for Gonzaga. Issues such as salarymid-points and the merit system will be discussed.
Staff Assembly’s role inThe University: Karen poses the question to Father Spitzer, “what can we as a groupdo to work well within the way the university functions?â€. Father Spitzer respondedwith an overview, emphasizing the importance of thinking creativelyto find solutions, and best use the resources we have, rather thansimply “throwing money at the problemsâ€. He assures the ExecutiveCouncil that as liaison, Thayne McCulloh will be very effective incommunicating the concerns and goals of the of the StaffAssembly.
