STAFF ASSEMBLY EXECUTIVE COUNCILMINUTES

Wednesday, September 3, 2003 12:00 –1:00 p.m.

1912 Room – AdministrationBuilding

Members Present:  Marcia Bertholf,  Kathy Sherrick, Kim Gieber,Bill Kostelec, Angela Ruff, Linda Sue McClure, Krystal Burns, MikeCasey.

The meeting was called toorder by President Marcia Bertholf at 12:10 p.m.

Minutes from August 27th wereapproved with changes.

Old Business

Fall OpenMeeting:            Marcia was unable to procure a meeting place to hold 100people.  Due toconstruction & classes, large meeting rooms are hard to findthis semester. Russell theatre is being used for a classroom thissemester. The council would rather not use the Law School courtroom as it is disconnected from the campus and caused a low turnoutfor the meeting. Marcia will work with Campus Services to find a venue.  The agenda will be: Followup on the Compensation Survey, Staff Survey,  Accreditation informationfrom Thayne & reintroducing the members of the council &the committees.

Follow Up Brown Bag fromHeads Up Gonzaga: To be held September 25^th when Fr. Spitzer willaddress the Mission. Marcia & Tricia Burns-Hart are meeting tohelp organize the event.

FinancialReport:     Marcianotified Rick Jones on the SA budget and the area for the staffanniversary gift certificates.  Of the budgeted amount,most has already been spent since June.  Rick directed Marcia to letit continue on as it has and we will look at the line to see aboutincreasing it for next years budget. 

Anniversary GiftCertificates: Marcia will talk with Keith Gauthierto get an understanding of why the gift certificates are to be usedonly at the bookstore.  With the new GU IDcards, Council will work with Rick Jones to see if the giftcertificate program can be increased to use other services oncampus, Paw Prints, Sodexho, etc.

New Business

New StudentOrientation: An email came out last week inviting Faculty& Administrators to the orientation events on the first weekendbefore classes began. Marcia asked that at least one Staff representative be put on theorientation team so that staff areas are represented at orientation& that staff be invited to attend the events.  Marcia will talk with BethHellwig-Olson to get on the orientation agenda for the 2004academic year.

Newsletter Items  Any stories or concernsshould be addressed to the Community Service/Outreachcommittee.

Staff Morale  Staff recognition was amajor concern that came out of the Heads Up Gonzaga survey as wellas the staff survey. Council is looking at ways to get information to the staff personthat was helpful or went “above & beyond” and also to make thesupervisor aware. Marcia will bring information next week.  Linda Sue has copies of the“appreciation certificates” that were circulated a few yearsago.  She will get acopy to the council.
