STAFF ASSEMBLY EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MINUTES
November 7, 2001 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
Crosby Large Conference Room
Members Present: Bill Kostelec, BrettHendricks, Janice Resch, Kim Gieber, Krystal Burns, Keith Gauthier,Barbara Kolbet, Molly Spilker, and Theresa Castillo
Members Absent: Neva Bishop and Anne Thomas
Guests Present: Lisa Smythe-Rodino, DianaLartz, Georgia Dunham, Julia Bjordahl, and Linda Murphy
The meeting was called to order by President Bill Kostelec at12:05.
Old Business
Minutes from 10/31/01 passed.
The Compensation Committee put forth a proposal forconsideration and endorsement by the Executive Council. Theproposal in its entirety appears below. Much discussion was hadsurrounding this proposal including some concerns that some areaswould not be able to fully participate in the time off that isbeing proposed. Julia Bjordahl, acting on behalf of MargoStanfield, Vice President of University Relations and Linda Murphy,brought these concerns forward. December is a very busy time forsome departments, the concerns surrounding this were addressed, andthe proposal was amended to address these legitimate concerns.Endorsement of the following proposal was put a vote of theexecutive council and passed unanimously. The endorsement memo wassigned and the documents taken to Mike Casey to present to FatherSpitzer on 11/7/01.
Budget Committee Report
- Tuition Increase/Salary Expense Increase
- In three of the last five year the salary increases have beenhigher than the tuition increases –
Discussion by the executive council revealed that this mustbe from the trend to move staff from non-exempt and exempt toprofessional and the new administrators that have been hired in thelast few years, not due to an increase is existing stafferswages.
- In December the Board will be given information indicating thatwe have been underpricing ourselves as compared to many otherJesuit colleges and universities.
Compensation Survey Discussion
A discussion ensued, and the main themes that surfaced was
- Paying Gonzaga University employees at or below poverty levels– due to time constraints, this item was tabled for discussion atthe next meeting
Scheduling of future meetings
November 14th, Crosby Multipurpose Room, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
Future meetings will be held each Wednesday in Crosby LargeConference Room from 12:00 – 1:00. Since this is the lunch hour,please feel free to bring your lunch. All SAEC members will benotified if there is a change to this recurring meeting.
By virtue of the bylaws, all Staff Assembly meetings are openunless otherwise designated by the Executive Council. Everyone iswelcome to attend.
