STAFF ASSEMBLY EXECUTIVE COUNCILMINUTES

October 31, 2001 12:00 – 1:00p.m.

Members Present: Bill Kostelec,Brett Hendricks, Janice Resch, Kim Gieber, Krystal Burns, AnneThomas, Neva Bishop and Keith Gauthier

Members Absent: Barbara Kolbet,Theresa Castillo, and Molly Spilker

Guests Present: Lisa Smythe-Rodino,Diana Lartz, and Georgia Dunham

Themeeting was called to order by President Bill Kostelec at12:05.

Old Business

Minutesfrom 10/24/01 passed.

Review of meeting with Mike Casey, Bill Kostelecand Keith Gauthier.

  • MikeCasey agreed to be the liaison between the Staff Assembly andFather Spitzer.
  • MikeCasey reports directly to Father Spitzer and work for theBoard.
  • Will bereading the compensation survey – he was not here when it wasoriginally published.
  • Willserve as "mail carrier" to Father Spitzer
  • Expecting proposals from us in about two weeks,regarding morale and compensation
  • Discussions were had surrounding morale and the needto proceed with something as soon as possible to boostmorale.

It wassuggested by Bill Kostelec that we continue to meet with the sameagenda and the same group of people, the Staff Assembly ExecutiveCouncil and the Compensation Committee, until we have some solidproposals to send to Father Spitzer via Mike Casey. It was agreedon by everyone present to proceed as Billsuggested.

Compensation SurveyDiscussion

A longdiscussion ensued, and the main themes that surfacedwere

  • Moraleis low and continuing to decline
  • Needfor supervisor training
  • Erosionof quality of benefits
  • Increasing price of benefits
  • Compensation structure
  • Lowcompensation

Proposals

TheCompensation Committee submitted two proposals – both regardingmorale. One was a short term morale boosting solution and the otherwas regarding overall compensation procedures, and long term moraleboosting. The executive council asked for some changes and willrevisit these proposals on 11/7/01.

Scheduling of futuremeetings

November7th, Crosby Multipurpose Room, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Futuremeetings will be held each Wednesday in Crosby Large ConferenceRoom from 12:00 – 1:00. Since this is the lunch hour, please feelfree to bring your lunch. All SAEC members will be notified ifthere is a change to this recurring meeting.

Byvirtue of the bylaws, all Staff Assembly meetings are open unlessotherwise designated by the Executive Council. Everyone is welcometo attend.
