STAFF ASSEMBLYEXECUTIVE COUNCIL MINUTES

1.                  Call toOrder

Scott Murray called the meeting to order at 9:05a.m.

2.                  Committee Reports

a. Review of Committee Reports

Growth concerns remain an issue. Parking is a bigconcern particularly with the enrollment increase. Buildingmaintenance lso is a concern.  As new buildings areconstructed, we have fewer people to maintain them. The StaffAssembly representative to the budget committee should be presentand be willing to make suggestions to the committee and voice ourconcerns.

 b.  Guests

We had input from our guests regarding some ofthe issues we have discussed. They shared their thoughts onthe growth and compensation plans.

3.            New Business

a.       Open Forum

Therelationship between SA and the University administration ispositive.  Scott isable to have meetings with Harry Sladich and get accurateinformation. We will promote that relationship and also informthe staff about the improvement in communication.  Concerns were expressedthat the SA doesn't have decision making power for anyspecific issue.  Beingpart of the decision process is helpful, but the SAEC wants tohave a greater impact for the staff.  It was suggested that wepropose to the university that the staff, as a body, be ableto make some "smaller" decisions to start with (like the labor day holiday orsomething like that). This could be an example of building credibilityand voice. Another suggestion was made regarding ourgetting out and talking with staff members and drecting ourenergies toward real issues such as compensation.

b.      Outreach Committee

Officers discussed the suggestion for a holiday charity activity howit could be implemented and how the SAEC could be helpful inthe success of that project.  Scott shall follow-up withGail.

c.       Meeting Attendance

Itis important for all executive council members to be in attendanceat our meetings. If it is not possible to be present, thepresident should be notified.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, November 15,2000  - 9:00 am to11:00 am.
