STAFFASSEMBLY EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MINUTES

February 7,2000

STAFFADVOCATES:

Rosemarie and Scott met with Peggy Bilger and Victoria Lovelandto discuss staff advocates. The Employee Handbook was reviewed aswell as the information on staff advocates that Scott hadpreviously presented to HR.  It was decided that anyoneuniversity wide could be a staff advocate, not just the members ofthe Staff Assembly Executive Council.  Anyone interested will beinvited to attend an informational meeting.  After the initial meeting,those still interested will need permission from their supervisor,due to the fact that this may take time away from current jobresponsibilities. HR will provide ongoing advocate training.  A public list will beavailable of staff through: 1) HR, 2) Staff Assembly webpage, 3)Switchboard, and 4) postings on bulletin boards in all majorbuildings.  The HRDepartment would like to keep a record of those individuals who areacting in a staff advocate capacity.   Forms will beavailable in the staff advocate packets.  Staff advocates will beasked to fill out the date and their name only. Confidentialitywill be strictly enforced related to who is involved and the issue.An e-mail will be sent out from the HR Department informing thoseinterested in being a volunteer staff advocate of the date and timeof the informational meeting.

NEW EMPLOYEEHANDBOOK:

The new Employee Handbooks will be going out in March.  All employees will need tosign a form stating they have received the new Employee Handbook,then they will need to sign a form and return it to the HRDepartment stating that they have read and understood the contentsof the handbook.  TheHR Department will meet with individual departments to discuss thecontents of the handbook.

COMPENSATIONCOMMITTEE:

Staff members are still turning in the CompensationSurveys.  At thepresent time there have been approximately 300 surveysreturned.  Rosemarie will contact Thayne and/or Bobbie to arrange for a timeto meet and discuss the results of the survey. 

COMPENSATION SURVEYRESULTS TO STAFF:

It was recommended that the week of March 13th wouldbe the best to present the results of the Compensation Survey tothe staff.  It would bebest to have two meetings in order to accommodate employees fromdifferent shifts. It was suggested that possibly the first meetingshould be on Wednesday, March 15, 2000, 7:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. andthe second meeting should be Thursday, February 16, 2000, 10:00A.M. to Noon. Rosemarie will contact Harry Sladich for approval for the meetingsand times.  Rosemariewill schedule the Jepson Auditorium for the two meetings.  At the scheduled meetings,the topics of employee compensation, staff advocates, and the newemployee handbook will be discussed. Also, the employee handbookswill be distributed at that time.
