Giving
Senior Fund

As a senior, you are invited to become part of the legacy and tradition that has made your Gonzaga experience possible by participating in Senior Fund 2010!

The Senior Fund was created more than three decades ago in order to instill a culture of philanthropy while providing graduating seniors an opportunity to show their Zag pride and become a ZAG FOR LIFE!

This year, the Senior Fund is all about YOU! Throughout our four years, each member of our class has become involved with something special at Gonzaga. Because of this, each senior has the opportunity to give to an area that they are most passionate about. You are encouraged to give to whatever inspires you. Whether it’s your favorite department, club or activity that you participated in - YOU decide where to leave your mark.

2010 Senior Fund Options:

Can't find a fund that interests you? It's no problem - you can choose your own! Simply select the Department/Major of your Choice option on the make a gift page and fill in where you would like your gift designated.

Most importantly, we want to emphasize that the Senior Fund is not about the amount of money given, but about the participation from every member of the Class of 2010. Regardless of gift size, you are acknowledging and thanking those who have impacted your time at Gonzaga while simultaneously forging the future. So, show your pride and become a ZAG FOR LIFE by participating in the 2010 Senior Fund!

For questions regarding the Senior Fund, please contact t 509.313.5988.

Your support can make a significant impact! Below are descriptions of each fund option and examples of how your support can enhance the programs that GU offers its students.

Green Fund

This fund helps to reduce Gonzaga’s “eco pawprint” by funding campus improvements that make Gonzaga University more environmentally sound. By giving to the Green Fund, each member of the GU family can help to preserve our campus and our world for future generations of Zags.

If 50 members of the senior class gave just $20, that would equal $1,000 and could:
- Switch 500 regular light bulbs to energy-saving fluorescent bulbs
- Change 83 dorm showers to low flow showerheads
- Purchase 50,000kwh of renewable energy through green tags

University Ministry

Students often say that going on a retreat provides one of the most important and transformational experiences of their time at Gonzaga. Your support can ensure that this experience continues so that every student who seeks to deepen their faith has the opportunity to do so. Your support of this program can make a significant difference towards the cost required for one student to attend the following retreats:

Total cost for 1 of 6 Freshman Retreats $2880 (about $85/student)
Cost for 1 of 4 SEARCH Retreats $2880 (about $88.75/student)

CCASL Mentoring Programs

Every year GU students provide 114,000 hours of student volunteer service working with at-risk youth, the disabled, the elderly and others in need within the Spokane community and around the world.

If the senior class raised $3,000 for CCASL Mentoring Programs, it would allow each of the following areas an additional $300 to support each of their various projects throughout the year:

  • SMILE
  • Campus Kids
  • Shaw Connection
  • Santa's Helpers
  • Little Bulldogs Basketball League
  • Zag Study Buddies
  • Mission Possible
  • Our Kids Our Business (child abuse prevention campaign)
  • April's Angels
  • GAME

Student Activities

Only part of our education and growth occurs in the classroom, the other part comes from the activities and events students are involved in around campus. Gonzaga is committed to providing students with a wide range of opportunities that create a well rounded college experience. This fund will help to fund campus wide activities such as concerts, speakers and special events for all students to enjoy such as the dynamic and empowering hip hop duo, The Blue Scholars, who recently performed on campus.

Diversity Programs

Summer BRIDGE Program (Building Relationships In Diverse Gonzaga Environments)
Retention research has shown that multicultural students who attend predominantly white institutions need to build a solid foundation within that institution to be successful. The Summer BRIDGE Program is a pre-orientation experience that allows students to create a community bond and enhance their knowledge of Gonzaga. Many students who participate in the program say if it wasn’t for it, they would have left Gonzaga. Your support can ensure that Gonzaga continues to create a more welcoming and diverse campus.

Estimated cost per student for next year is $300, though students are only charged $50.

$1,200 raised through the Senior Fund will allow for scholarship money to be provided to students who wish to participate in the BRIDGE program.

LEADS Program (Leadership, Education, Academic Development and Survival Skills)
This program targets Summer BRIDGE students and will participate in a comprehensive approach that will empower students with personal leadership abilities in every area of their campus life - academically, socially, emotionally, culturally, and spiritually. Designed to encourage higher levels of retention, assure a high quality Gonzaga experience, and successful persistence to graduation.

$1000 would enhance the program by providing quality materials and incorporating activities for all participants.

Senior Scholarship Fund

Core to our Jesuit mission is the belief that a Gonzaga education should be accessible to all deserving students. Admission to Gonzaga is competitive and need-blind: acceptance reflects students’ academic achievement and character, not their ability to pay. The reality is that nine out of ten students receive financial assistance. If you are a student on scholarship, then you know first-hand how much it is appreciated. To show your appreciation to those who were so generous to fund your education, pay it forward and support the Senior Scholarship Fund so others can share in the Gonzaga experience.

Great Teachers Program (GTP)

Continuous improvement is one of the University’s primary goals each year. However, many of the needs on campus do not have a direct source of funding. This unrestricted fund allows money to be allocated to a variety of programs and projects, based on urgency as seen by the President and his cabinet. The purpose of the fund is to make changes that will enhance and improve the Gonzaga experience.

Past uses of this fund include:

  • Hiring more faculty to maintain adequate student-to-teacher ratios
  • Upgrading technology and media-enhanced classrooms
  • The renovation of handicapped accessible ramps in residence halls and other facilities
  • Purchasing new furniture and carpet in residence halls and apartments
  • Installing central air conditioning in Crosby Student Center
