Telephone Information for Students

printer Printer Friendly
Welcome to Gonzaga University! The information provided is meant to assist you with the telephone features during your stay in University housing.
Telephone System
Each room has its own telephone extension, a four-digit number which, when dialed from any campus phone, will ring that telephone set. You may make off-campus local calls by dialing 9 first, and then your local seven-digit number.
Long-distance calls require the use of a Pre-paid Calling Card. Students are encouraged to bring Pre-Paid Calling Cards with them. Calling cards are available for purchase on campus at the Mail Services Counter in the Crosby Student Center lower level.  (MCIPrepaid Cards, 120 Minutes, $5.00)  Other long distance calling plans are discouraged.  Any other long distance plans must be set up to bill your home/permanent address.*
*It is against campus policy to establish any account that links to a University owned phone line. Other billing arrangements must be made.
The University has its own 24-hour Switchboard system whereby you may speak directly with a Gonzaga operator day or night. They can assist you with obtaining information about Gonzaga University. If you should require Switchboard assistance, dial 0 from any campus telephone.
Telephone Features
Two Important features of our telephone system are Direct-In-Dial (DID) and Voice Mail (Intuity Audix).
DID services make it possible for people to call in directly to your room on campus rather than going through the University Switchboard. Simply add the prefix 313 to your room telephone extension. This will allow outside callers to dial your extension directly (e.g., 313-4300 where 4300 is the room extension number). The area code for Spokane is 509.
The other important feature is called Intuity Audix/Voice Mail.  Your extension is equipped with a self-contained answering machine, accessible only to you. You may obtain access to your Voice Mailbox by dialing 2417 from any campus phone and following the instructions. See Intuity Audix/Voice Mail and AudixQuick Reference guides for additional information. If you are off-campus and wish to check your Voice Mailbox, dial 328-4220.  Once the in-bound call director operator answers, dial extension 2417 and follow the instructions.  The initial default password number is set at the # sign or 3535#.  Audix will prompt you to change and set your own password immediately upon the first time entering the system.  See Intuity Audix/Voice Mail for detailed instructions.
The voice mailbox services are provided to you at no extra charge. Please contact Plant Services at extension 5656 to assist you or forward you to the telephone system administrator to handle any questions or concerns you may have with the Intuity Audix/Voice Mailbox or TelephoneServices.
QWEST Directory
The Qwest Directory regional phone book is available via the campus network.  See dexonline.com for information on installation to your desktop.
