CABLE TV IN CAMPUS HOUSING/ACADEMIC BUILDINGS
IMPORTANT NOTICE!! Comcast/X-finity Digital/HD Service Upgrade August 30, 2014. All TV's will need to be reset by doing a new channel/program scan!!
Gonzaga University has a direct TV Cable feed from Comcast/Xfinity Cable - unlike standard Comcast Services in the Spokane region. This direct cable TV feed does NOT allow the purchase of additional Comcast/Xfinity packages as add-ons to the Campus Cable Channel Line-up. Please DO NOT order additional Comcast/Xfinity channel packages. They will NOT work on the GU Campus.
TELEVISION REQUIRMENTS FOR COMCAST CABLE TV SERVICES TO FUNCTION
- All TV's when initially installed will require a new channel search/program scan to select the new channel line-up.
- The remote control that comes with the TV is required to do the channel search. A Universal remote will not work for the initial set up of channels!!!
- If/when Comcast makes adjustments to the GU Channel line-up a notice will be sent to students to run the channel search function on their individual TV's again to gather the new changes.
- Older "analog" TV's may require a Channel Master CM-7001 Antenna Tuner/Converter Box.
- Only the Channel Master CM-7001 Antenna Tuner works on Campus with the Comcast Service provided. We know, we tried several others and they all failed!!
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN SHOPPING FOR A TV TO BRING TO CAMPUS
Current Digital/HD compatible flat screen TV's have a built in QAM tuner and should work with the Campus Comcast Cable TV services. The original remote that is sold with the TV is required to run the channel program search to receive the GU Channel Line-up. ***A Universal Remote Will NOT work for initial TV Programming.***
Older style "box/analog" TV's generally will not work in Campus buildings without a Channel Master Antenna Tuner/Converter Box (CM-7001). Plant Services, Telecommunications Department has a limited supply of Channel Master Tuners available. If you need a Channel Master box, please enter a Work Order Request by email to email@example.com or call 509-313-5656. Plant Services loan 1 box and 1 remote per student. The Convervter Box and Remote will need to be returned prior to you leaving campus. If the box and remote are not returned there will be a $150 charge to your student account.
Last year discovery:
- The Westinghouse TV's from Wal-Mart required additional programming/instruction per the Campus Telecom Technicians.
- Vizio Flat Screen TV's purchased from Costco/other last year in general seemed to work fine.
NOT GETTING ALL THE GU BASIC CABLE CHANNELS ON YOUR TV? HERE ARE OPTIONS TO TRY.
Use the TV remote or buttons on your TV (Must use the TV remote NOT the Universal remote). Go to programming; choose either CATV or Auto Programming and run the programming/channel search. This will allow set up of all Comcast/Xfinity cable channels that are provided to the University.
No channels appear during or after the channel search is complete and you have an older style TV, you may need a Channel Master CM-7001 Antenna Tuner. Contact GU Plant Services, Customer Service at 313-5656 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to enter a Work Order Request for Campus Telecom Technician Assistance. (Please provide a call back phone number or e-mail address).
If all channels/pictures on your TV are fuzzy, check your cords, they may be bent, bad or not properly connected at the TV or wall jack.
If only the low channels (ie 1-12) are fuzzy, then it may be a Comcast/Xfinity problem. Please contact GU Plant Services, Customer Service at 313-5656 or e-mail email@example.com and enter a Work Order Request. (Please provide a call back phone number or e-mail address).
If it is determined to be a Comcast/Xfinity issue the GU Telecom Office will contact Comcast or a GU Telecom Tech will let you know if you need to call Comcast/Xfinity Customer Service at 1-877-824-2288 and schedule a service appointment. You can call Comcast/Xfinity direct if you are unable to reach GU Plant Services, Customer service if you have a TV Cable issue after hours. GU Plant Services, Customer Service Hours are Monday - Friday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
CABLE TV IN GU RENTAL HOUSES
Students living in GU Rental Houses per contract with the Campus Housing Office, can purchase their own TV, phone and internet services. Campus TV Cable, phone and internet services are not provided. Comcast/Xfinity, Centurylink, DirectTV etc can provide a variety of residential services to rental houses in the area.
