ZagAlert FAQ

ZagAlert is the University's emergency notification system.  Gonzaga will use ZagAlert to provide emergency notices to faculty, staff, and students in the event of a significant emergency involving an immediate threat to life or safety on campus.

1 . Am I automatically enrolled in ZagAlert?^

No.  You must log in to ZagWeb and sign up for ZagAlert.

2 . How do I sign up for ZagAlert?^

You can sign up for ZagAlert, or update your notification information, by logging into ZagWeb.  Click on the link labeled "Enter Secure Area" and log in.  From the main menu, click on the link labeled "ZagAlert" and follow the instructions.

3 . How do I opt out?^

You can opt out of receiving ZagAlert messages by logging into ZagWeb, clicking on the ZagAlert link on the main menu, and following the instructions for opting out.  Please be aware that when you opt out of ZagAlert, you will receive NO emergency alert information via ZagAlert.

4 . What happens after I enter my information?^

If you did not include a text message (SMS) number, you are done and no more action is required.  You will receive 2 test messages from ZagAlert each year.  If the University ever needs to alert you to an actual emergency, you will receive a notification from the University with information about the emergency and what to do.

If you included a text message (SMS) number:

Non T-Mobile subscriber: You will receive a confirmation message between 10am and 6pm PST from 23177 that says "ZAGALERT: You are confirmed to receive alerts based on acct settings. More info text reply 'HELP'; or 'STOP GONZAGA' to opt-out."

T-Mobile subscriber: You will receive a request for confirmation message between 10am – 6pm PST from 23177 that says: "ZAGALERT: You have asked to receive SMS alerts from us. You must text reply 'Y GONZAGA' to confirm this request."  T-Mobile requires that you respond to this message by texting the "Y GONZAGA" message in response or you will not receive text messages from ZagAlert.

5 . What will happen when ZagAlert is activated?^

ZagAlert will be tested twice each year - once during fall semester, once during spring semester.  If an actual emergency arises, ZagAlert will be activated if the emergency involves an immediate threat to life or safety on campus.

When ZagAlert is activated, you will receive voice messages at ALL of the phone numbers you include in your contact information, email messages at BOTH email addresses you include, and text (SMS) messages at the SMS message number you include.

If you choose to opt in to ZagAlert, you MUST include at least one phone number and one email address (which will be included automatically for you when you opt in).

6 . What do I do if my contact information changes?^

Sign in to ZagWeb and update your contact information from the "ZagAlert" link on the main menu.  Your information will be updated in ZagAlert within 24 hours.

7 . I see a caller ID of (509) 313-5666. Who is this?^

This number is the University's emergency update number.  You can call it to hear updated information on the status of any emergency at the University.

8 . If I opted-out of receiving messages and want to start receiving them again, how do I opt back in?^

For all messages: Log into ZagWeb and update your ZagAlert information.  If you update and save, your status will be changed to receive messages.

For text messages only: (This applies ONLY if you have opted in to ZagAlert from ZagWeb, but opted out of receiving text messages when you received your first ZagAlert text message.) Send a text message to the number 23177 and type "SUBSCRIBE GONZAGA" in the body of the text message.

9 . If I am a T-Mobile subscriber and I never replied to my ‘request for confirmation’ message?^

Send a text to the number 23177 and type "SUBSCRIBE GONZAGA" in the body of the text message. You will receive a request for confirmation. Please reply to the message with "Y GONZAGA" and you receive confirmation of your participation in ZAGALERT.

10 . Why can't I change my main e-mail address?^

Gonzaga has designated e-mail as an official channel of communication.  You are assigned an official e-mail address by the University and this address is used as your main or primary e-mail address in ZagAlert.  You can include an alternate e-mail address and you will receive ZagAlert notifications at both addresses.
