TES Services

What We Do... Technology Education Services (TES) is the primary resource for audiovisual, media and technology support for the Gonzaga University community. Meet our staff.

Media Services Classroom Support: TES helps faculty, staff and students with classroom technology, equipment training and audiovisual support. To find out more about our classroom support visit our media services area.

Software Training: TES is committed to providing quality technology development to the GU community in an effort to enhance learning in the classroom and develop professional skills.

We offer training classes on the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Elements and Photoshop, the Blackboard Course Management System, and our integrated campus database, Banner. Each class takes place in a lab setting and lasts 1-2 hours. View our online training schedule at www.gonzaga.edu/gutraining.

We also offer all Gonzaga faculty and staff access to SkillPort Online Software Training. Over 400 titles are available in beginning, intermediate and advanced offerings. To find out more and register for SkillPort visit our software training page.

Instructional Materials Development and Production: Video, audio, photography and graphic design services are available for the production of instructional support materials. TES also operates and maintains a self-serve video editing facility (free of charge) within the Foley Center Library. This facility is equipped with cuts-only editing equipment, CD player, audio cassette player and audio-mic over capabilities. We also offer computer-based editing applications with Adobe Premiere and Sonic Foundry Video Vegas. More advanced editing with special effects capability is available for hire through our department's video productions operations. In addition, TES offers video duplication services to on and off campus patrons. Our facility is capable of dubbing 13+ video tapes simultaneously and can handle the format conversion of European produced video cassettes.

Satellite & Video Conferencing Services: Regional, national and international television programming and video conferences are received using three satellite dishes and transmitted live on the Gonzaga University Cable TV network. TES also provides a fee-based satellite downlinking service to GU and non-GU affiliates for the transmission of videoconferences or educational programming to a live audience. Programming may also be recorded off-satellite for future classroom or corporate use.

Distance Education Resources: Distance education instruction, is operated and maintained by the TES department. This distance education facility is predominately used to support the Nursing program's mission to teach students at a distance via video taped classroom lectures. TES also utilizes desktop videoconferencing as a distance education resource. Gonzaga University's Professional and Organizational Leadership Program is currently teaching classes at a distance using this state-of-the-art compressed videoconferencing system. Video Conferencing is also made available to the public at reasonable rates.

Modern Language/ESL Language Lab: Gonzaga University's Language Lab is operated and maintained by TES on a daily basis. Modern Language, ESL students and faculty are assisted by our department in the use of the facility's equipment and multimedia resources. Satellite programming provided by SCOLA, Satellite Communications for Learning Association, is downlinked and transmitted to the University's language lab facility for the purposes of enhancing cultural awareness in specific areas of study and to facilitate language literacy.
