Interpreters
Responsibilities - Student
Student must provide Disability Resources with documentation verifying the need for interpreter services, participate in an initial interview, and sign a Disability Resources release of information form.
Student shall register as early as possible for classes (priority registration will be approved) and will request interpreter services at least 6-8 weeks prior to the start of the semester.
Student should notify Disability Resources in the event of difficulty with an interpreter or any concerns about a class.
Student shall notify Disability Resources if unable to attend class at least one (1) hour prior to the arranged time of class and 24 hours prior to any event or meeting (if possible).
Student agrees to adhere to the policies of Gonzaga University and of the instructor for attending class. If the student is more than 15 minutes late for a class, the interpreter will be allowed to leave. After three (3) consecutive unexcused absences or late arrivals to class or a total of five (5) absences or late arrivals, services will be suspended until the student meets with Disability Resources.
Student shall notify Disability Resources within a reasonable amount of time, preferably at least one (1) week in advance/five (5) business days, when requesting an interpreter for special campus sponsored events/activities or meetings. This is essential to arrange and schedule an interpreter.
Responsibilities - Disability Resources
Disability Resources will arrange for interpreters for admission, registration, classes and school-sponsored activities when requested. Under no circumstances will Gonzaga be responsible for payment of interpreter services unless authorized in advance by Disability Resources.
Disability Resources will send a letter to each instructor involved outlining the student’s needs and listing suggestions for working with students with hearing impairments.
Disability Resources will act as a liaison between the students/faculty/staff when necessary.
Disability Resources will authorize priority registration for students using interpreters.
Disability Resources will coordinate and monitor activities of interpreters provided by Disability Resources in GU classes.
