GUST

Gonzaga University Summer Term (GUST) June 27 ~ August 7, 2010

GUST is a six-week summer program for motivated incoming first year students who want to get a head start on their Gonzaga career.  GUST provides the opportunity to meet other students, network with professors and learn valuable college survival skills through focused study in a fun summer session.  GUST offers a wide variety of courses to choose from, in a variety of subjects.

What will GUST do for me?

GUST allows students to get a jump-start on their college courses. GU students who plan to graduate in four years need to plan their coursework well.  For a four-year timeline, all majors require that a minimum of 16 credits be taken every semester or 32 credits a year. Some majors require an average of 17-18 per term.  Students in GUST can take two to four first-year courses during the summer and get ahead or possibly lighten a heavy load for the fall term.

 What's involved?

GUST students come to Gonzaga's campus in late June and enroll in eight to ten semester credits during our regularly scheduled Summer Session II.  Students choose from several course combinations, all of which fulfill University Core Requirements.  All GUST students live on campus in one of our residence halls, and eat in one of several dining facilities.  Students from the local area may live at home, but are responsible for attendance at all required GUST academic and co-curricular events.  During the six-week session, students are invited to join in a number of on- and off-campus activities, both social and academic.  Academic support services relevant to studies are also available.

 What courses are available?

GUST students enroll in a one-credit Strategy for College course (UNIV 115), designed to get them on the inside track for transition from high school to the college learning environment.  Students get individualized academic advising as they explore the structure of college academic work, learning styles, effective note-taking, test-taking and other study strategies, as well as hands-on academic planning.  In addition to UNIV 115, students choose several courses in a variety of subject areas, all of which can be applied towards core degree requirements.  Courses offered include, but are not limited to, English, speech, and history, as well as business and religion courses.  A complete list of course offerings will be available online in the coming months; when it is posted, you can view it from zagweb: see the full list by clicking on "Course Catalogue and Class Schedule" then on "Schedule for the Summer 2 2010 Term".  For course descriptions, visit the University Catalogue on-line.
