Schedule Changes

What you need to know about Schedule Changes before you request them!

 1. You will work with an advisor on your schedule change requests.  We are all well-versed in the requirements of Gonzaga degrees and programs.  Please trust our process and expertise - we promise to take great care of you!

 2. Your first-semester schedule provides you with a combination of core requirements and major/area of interest courses. A typical schedule will include 15-18 credits (some may have fewer.)  If you are registered for less than 18 credits, you have room for a one-credit activity course to be added.

 3. College classes run from 7:00 am - 9:00 pm, Monday through Friday. You may have courses at any time/day during this period. Registration at any college or university is prioritized by credits completed.  As such, freshmen are the last group of students to enroll, and as a result will have early and late classes in their first year.

 4.  Most students have a schedule with courses from the University and School/College Core, as well as major/area of interest courses (if available or appropriate). See the "Why Am I Taking These Courses" page to break down your schedule.

 5.  You will find out who your Academic Advisor is later this month, and will meet him/her at the Academic Convocation on Monday, September 2nd.  You will work with your advisor on all things academic beginning that day.  Prior to the first day of school, any questions, concerns or requests regarding your schedule for fall will be handled by  Academic Advising and Assistance.  We are also available to assist you with registration adds and drops through the add/drop period.

Schedule Change requests will be accepted on the following dates/times below.  All schedule changes must be made by the studentWe cannot take schedule change requests from parents or other family members.

Pre-Orientation Schedule Changes - August 5th through August 9th

Students may phone, e-mail or visit the Academic Advising & Assistance advisors to have a conversation regarding their fall schedules, and to request changes. Please refrain from using multiple communication methods and/or contacting us more than once with regard to your schedule request, as this will slow down the process.  Each schedule change request, regardless of communication method (call, email or walk-in), will be attended to in a timely and appropriate manner.  All students will be listened to, and their requests handled accordingly.

If you call-in or e-mail your schedule change request(s), be prepared with your student ID number and date of birth, as we will need to verify your identity.  Also, be as prepared as possible when requesting changes. Write down what you are requesting before you call.  If you wish to add an elective course, be prepared with more than one course choice, as they do fill quickly.

Changing Your Schedule After Classes Begin

Your courses will begin officially on Tuesday, September 3rd.  Each semester, there is an add/drop period in which students may make final adjustments to their schedules.  If, after a consultation with your faculty advisor, whom you will meet on Monday, September 2nd, you determine you would like to make more changes to your schedule, please visit the Academic Advising & Assistance office (College Hall 104) during regular business hours before the following dates:

Last day to Add a Course - Wednesday, September 11th

Last day to Drop a Course - Friday, September 13th

We strongly encourage you to make add/drop changes within the first week of class, when possible.  The later you change a course, the more material you will have missed.  Further, absences you will have incurred (even while you were not yet enrolled) can still count against you in terms of total allowable absences per course in a given semester.

Special notes of consideration:

  • We regret that, due to the volume of students requiring attention during the summer and New Student Orientation, we are unable to schedule individual appointments or make schedule changes outside the times and dates already specified.  We want to ensure we give each student the dedication and attention each deserves, which can take some time, so please be patient.
  • Parents are welcome to sit-in on any of these advising conversations, however, the student MUST be present and the request for changes MUST come from the student.
