Corrective Action

Corrective Action Plans, developed between the employee and supervisor, are specific, detailed written programs which define the problem(s), expectations for improvement, and time lines. A Corrective Action Plan is normally implemented after a Performance Notice has failed to sufficiently improve performance and/or conduct. However, a Corrective Action Plan can be used in addition to, or in place of, a Performance Notice at the supervisor's discretion. Where appropriate, Corrective Action may also include discipline, such as verbal warnings, written warnings, probation or suspension without pay. These actions are normally for specific, serious performance incidents or conduct violations to impress upon the employee the gravity of the situation.

Corrective Action Plans are used at the University's discretion, and each situation is judged on its on merits. The University views Corrective Action as a shared responsibility between employee and supervisor.

Performance Notice and Corrective Action are optional for Executives, Administrators, and certain key professional, managerial, and supervisory positions due to their sensitive nature and/or impact on University operations. Appendix 7 Performance Notice and Corrective Action
