SEXUAL ASSAULT REPORTING, SUPPORT, AND REFERRAL

Individuals listed here are committed to providing non-judgmental, confidential and respectful support to all parties

RESIDENT ASSISTANT AND RESIDENT DIRECTOR (mandatory reporters)

assess and prioritize immediate needs of student reporting party

 strongly encourage student to allow SAFeT advocate to be contacted for crisis counseling and advocacy; contact SAFeT if student agrees

      refer for medical attention ~ hospital emergency room

      refer to Campus Security and/or Spokane Police Department (SPD) if student chooses to report immediately

      obligated to report incident to University (may be anonymous) and inform student who is receiving the report and what will occur Â

      please refer to Victoria Loveland at Center for Equal Opportunity to assist student in determining whether and how to proceed (intake, internal resolution options, resources)

      NOT your role to determine whether or not incident occurred; you are not an advocate

      Your role to provide unbiased emotional support and response (i.e., non-judgmental listening)

      aware of campus and community resources

      encourage student to be cautious about who is told about the incident to protect privacy

      let reporting party know who else will be informed

      do not pressure student to report until student is ready

      talk with accused student to assess what resources may be needed

      maintain confidentiality ~ critical

      provide reporting student on-going care and support

      if sexual assault occurred within 72 hours, refer to Deaconess Medical Center (458-7100) Emergency Room for rape kit

      student can arrange for taxi 24/7 by calling GU Operator (ext. 0) or 328-4220 if off campus; say "this is a medical emergency and I need transportation to Deaconess ER"

      if sexual assault occurred more than four (4) days before, Health Center can test for STD's,

      pregnancy, AIDs, or refer off-campus if desired
