2001 aware winners included Josef E. Gray, Roland A. Herriges, Norman L. Roberts and Richard S. Rosler.
Mr. Josef Gray, a 1958 graduate from the School of Education, retired in 1998 as President of Seafirst Bank. In his 37 years of service to the bank, he believes his most important contribution was preparing others to succeed. He and his wife of 45 years, Stefany have six children and 13 grandchildren. Both are active in their community. Joe served as past chairman of Partners in Public Education, UW Business School Advisory Board, St. Martin's College Board of Trustees, Gonzaga University's Board of Regents and with many other civic organizations.
Rol Herriges ('57) spent many years in journalism and public relations. Currently President of SquareRigger Communications, spent many years KHQ-TV in Spokane, Associated General Contractors and more recently, ICM Asset Management. He has served in many capacities a number of local charities, including St. Joseph's Family Center, Spokane Community Colleges Foundation, Morningstar Boys Ranch and the Spokane Public Relations Council. In 1978, he was instrumental in the arrangement of financing for the purchase of the Crosby Alumni House, still the home of the Alumni Association today.
Norm Roberts is a 1959 graduate of the Gonzaga University Law School. He began his career at Boeing, but was called to duty and served for many years with in the JAG Corps, as Chief Legal Counsel for US Army procurement in Europe and the Middle East and as an Administrative Law Judge on the US Army Board of Contract Appeals. He also served many years in practice, retiring in 2000 as the Senior Vice President and General Counsel of UNOVA.
Mr. Richard Rolser graduated from Gonzaga with a chemical engineering degree in 1959. He returned to Gonzaga, after completion of his doctorate at Northwestern, and was an Associate Professor of chemical engineering. Following that, he spent 30 years in the semiconductor industry where he authored more then 25 technical papers. He has nine patents in the same area. He and his wife Connie recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. He is most importantly involved in the McDowell Sonoran Land Trust, a group dedicated to preserving the desert and mountains of the Scottsdale, AZ area.
