Again, congratulations on your acceptance to the Gonzaga-in-Florence program! As you prepare for your fall departure, this page will highlight some of the pre-departure information you will need to get ready for your time abroad. Begin your pre-departure process with the following three steps:
Step 1: Reserve your place on the program
In order to reserve your place on the program and to be eligible to register for fall classes, pay the $500 deposit that is due within two weeks after your acceptance. The deposit is applied to the program cost. Fall 2011 & Year 2011/12 deposits are non-refundable after June 1, 2011. For deposit payment instructions, click here.
Step 2: Review the Passport and Italian Visa Information
All students studying abroad in Italy, regardless of term, are required to have a passport that is valid for three months after the end of the program. In addition, all students are required to have an Italian study visa, which is a stamp in your passport. Attend a mandatory Italian visa meeting. You will be informed by the GU Study Abroad office when and where to submit your visa application. Visa documents and instructions will be given to all students. Do not plan on using your passport after June 1st (90 days before departure). Some Italian consulates will process your student visa in a few weeks and others can take up to 90 days.
Step 3: Receive your Pre-Departure Binder & Forms
You will receive a pre-departure orientation binder in late spring. The binder is given to Gonzaga students at their orientation meeting and is mailed to non-Gonzaga students. Parents will be able to view the program handbook online. The pre-departure orientation binder will include various forms that you will need to compete and submit to the GU Study Abroad office by the deadlines outlined on your checklist.
