Life in the Honors Program is more than classes and study. There are five Honors activities that are by long custom required of all. While from time to time other activities might conflict with one of these, the principle should be that the Honors Program has a high priority. These activities give students a "time out" from classes and provide a great atmosphere for meeting new and old friends.

Freshmen Dessert Social
Held the Sunday evening before the first week of classes in the backyard of Hopkins House, this social welcomes the freshmen to the Honors family. It's a wonderful way to see new faces and old friends before classes begin. (The desserts are heavenly!!)

Camp Reed Retreat
The second weekend of the Spring semester finds the Honors Program members relaxing around beautiful Camp Reed 40 miles north of Spokane. The retreat begins with the Senior and Freshman introductions followed shortly by discussions of the summer reading. Beyond that, however, much of the time is reserved for recreation. Boating and swimming are, of course, very popular past-times here. Also frequent are volleyball, basketball, frisbee, and hiking. A speech by Fr. Clancy and Honors Council elections are also annual events.
The highlight of the retreat, however, has to be the class skits around the campfire. Every year, each class prepares a short, and hopefully humorous, skit. They are performed for the entertainment of all around a campfire on the shores of the lake. Smores are traditionally enjoyed after the skits. |

Christmas Party
A classy Christmas celebration. Honors faculty are invited to this event as well. Fr. Clancy, the director, is often reported playing Santa Claus and handing out gifts. There is also a literature selection read aloud every year. Carols, gift exchanges, and dancing are usual fare as well.

Bozarth Retreat
The Bozarth Retreat, held at the end of March, is the second of the year for Honors Students. Held in the beautiful Bozarth Mansion in North Spokane, the retreat offers a great opportunity to socialize and get away from classes. Highlights include a guest lecture, The State of the Program Address, and nomination of Newman Fellows.
Arguably the feature event of the retreat is the Freshman presentation of Pyramus and Thisby from Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream. It is ancient tradition that the Freshman class perform the play for the rest of the program.
