The Better Business Bureau System
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) system in the U.S. extends over 98% of the nation; coast-to-coast, and in Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico. It also has a partner BBB system that serves much of Canada. In total, 145 BBBs help nearly 24 million consumers and businesses each year. Since the founding of the first BBB in 1912, the BBB system has proven that the majority of marketplace problems can be solved fairly through the use of voluntary self-regulation and consumer education.
The Bureau of Consumer Protection
Operated by the Federal Trade Commission, the Bureau of Consumer Protection's mandate is to protect consumers against unfair, deceptive, or fraudulent practices. The Bureau enforces a variety of consumer protection laws enacted by Congress, as well as trade regulation rules issued by the Commission. Its actions include individual company and industry-wide investigations, administrative and federal court litigation, rulemaking proceedings, and consumer and business education. In addition, the Bureau contributes to the Commission's on-going efforts to inform Congress and other government entities of the impact that proposed actions could have on consumers.
The Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT)
The Committee For A Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT) was created to offer a new voice on consumer and environmental issues. The Committee boldly proclaims that the Western values of competition, progress, freedom, and stewardship can and do offer the best hope for protecting not only the earth and its wildlife, but even more importantly, its people. So therefore, CFACT is working to promote free-market and safe technological solutions to such growing concerns as waste-management, food production and processing, electrical generation, air and water quality, wildlife protection and much more. With an impressive advisory board of more than 40 academic and scientific experts in various fields along with a rapidly expanding citizen membership, CFACT is a catalyst that is helping carry our nation and our world toward a more constructive tomorrow.
Consumer Alert was founded in 1977 as a national, non-profit, non-partisan, membership organization for people concerned about the excessive growth of government regulation at the national and state levels. Consumer Alert is dedicated to informing the public about the consumer benefits of competitive enterprise and to promoting sound economic, scientific, and risk data in public policy decisions. Our organization is the only free-market public interest group whose sole mission is to represent average consumers as purchasers of goods and services in a dynamic and competitive marketplace.

The Federal Consumer Information Center
The Federal Consumer Information Center (FCIC) was established in February 2000 as the result of a merger of the Consumer Information Center (CIC) and the Federal Information Center (FIC). The merger combined the CIC website (www.pueblo.gsa.gov), the Consumer Information Catalog, and the Pueblo publication distribution program with the FIC nationwide toll-free telephone assistance center. The new FCIC now serves as a trusted one-stop source for answers to questions about consumer problems and government services.
The Find-It! Washington is a collaborative effort of state organization sponsors and the Washington State Library staff to make useful, quality consumer information easily available to the public. Find-It! Consumer is a web site search engine for "one stop consumer help". It provides a single stop for searching more than 100 consumer protection and public safety web sites.
The National Consumers League
The National Consumers League works to protect and promote the economic and social interests of America's consumers, using education, research, science, investigation, publications, and the public and private sector to accomplish that mission. The organization was formed in 1899 with that purpose in mind and will continue to throughout the next century.
National Fraud Information Center
The NFIC was originally established in 1992 by the National Consumers League, the oldest nonprofit consumer organization in the United States, to fight the growing menace of telemarketing fraud by improving prevention and enforcement.
The New York State Consumer Protection Board
The New York State Consumer Protection Board (CPB) was created by our State Legislature in 1970. As the State's top consumer watchdog, the CPB is involved in a wide array of consumer issues. The CPB conducts consumer investigations, research and analysis, develops consumer education programs and materials, responds to individual complaints by working to settle disputes through voluntary agreements and it represents the interests of consumers before the PSC and other State and Federal agencies. Since its creation, the CPB has intervened in hundreds of utility cases saving New York's consumers more than $1 billion and has resolved hundreds of thousands of consumer complaints.
