Canadian Students 

All of the Distant Library Services apply to you while you are a student of Gonzaga University, but there are a few things that are unique to your status as a Gonzaga student living and taking classes in Canada.

Getting your library materials

• All articles are delivered electronically, but books are mailed to you, so plan accordingly. Mail delivery from the US to Canada is slow! Allow 3-4 weeks for mail from Spokane to arrive.
• It happens all the time...your library book finally arrives and it's already past the due date! If that happens, notify us immediately at ill@gonzaga.edu. We'll give you additional time with the book.
• When you mail the books back to us, try to return on or near the due date. We are very lenient with overdue fines if you show good intentions.
• Remember, you are responsible for return postage, way overdue charges and replacement fees for books damaged while in your possession.

An alternative to the postal service

• Some Canadian students have on occasion made arrangements for books to be delivered or returned by their Gonzaga-based professors. This is "above and beyond the call of duty" and entirely at the discretion of your professor!  If you make such an arrangement, be sure to let us know when and with whom to send your requested books. • If you will be visiting campus, we can hold materials here until you arrive. Just let us know when you will be on campus by sending an e-mail to ill@gonzaga.edu.

Canadian Dissertations

• If you need a Canadian dissertation for your research, an option you may want to consider is the Theses Canada Portal .  You can search their database and view many of the theses and dissertations online. You can also order a copy to keep if you so choose.
• Foley Library will request Canadian dissertations through interlibrary loan for you, but it may save time to try your local resources first. WHY? If we request one for you through interlibrary loan, the National Library of Canada mails it to us first and then we mail it to you. When you're finished with the item you mail it back to us and then we mail it back to NLC. The whole process can take months to complete for a single dissertation. For this reason, we encourage you to give the Theses Canada Portal a try. You might also want to check your local library's policies for ordering Canadian dissertations.

Articles in Canadian Journals

To limit your database searches so that only articles in Canadian journals will be retrieved:  

•  
  1. enter Canad* in one of the search boxes
  2. use the drop down list to limit that part of the search to Journal Name.

          This directs the database to search for words starting with 'Canad' (Canada, Canadian) in the journal title field.
