Congratulations on joining the rich tradition of Catholic Higher Education. In the United States, the first Catholic university established was Georgetown University in 1789. Today, there are over 250 Catholic higher education insitutions in the US with nearly 700,000 students. Many Catholic colleges and universities are established by a Catholic Religious Order such as the Jesuits, Franciscans, Congregation of Holy Cross, and Dominicans. To varying degrees the values of these religious orders are reflected in the mission and values of these higher education insitutions.
