Session 1 (Monday, 6:00-9:00 p.m.): The leader’s foundation

  • Course overview
  • What is leadership? Developing a definition
  • Experiences of being led and leading
  • Developing your authentic leadership story.

Session 2 (Tuesday, 8:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.): Research on leadership

  • Understanding Leadership Research:

o   Do traits matter?

o   Is there a best style?

o   Are there best practices revealed in research?

o   Moving towards a leadership identity

Session 3 (Tuesday, 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m.): Leadership development in the field

  • An interactive panel discussion with human resource professionals and other key company leaders responsible for leadership development
  • Lunch Provided by the School of Professional Studies

Session 4 (Tuesday, 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.): Leadership frameworks

  • Leadership books, theories, and approaches are ubiquitous. This session will examine a few of the more popular   approaches in the field.

Session 5 (Tuesday, 2:30-4:00 p.m.): Leadership live

  • The class will travel to Taylor Engineering and have a private session with Mike Taylor and explore his leadership story, his style and his learnings from a career of leading.

            Dinner Break (4:30-5:30)

Session 6 (Tuesday, 5:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m.): The inner world of the leader

  • Debrief afternoon visits
  • Exploring Failures in Leadership: Derailment literature; Common leadership flaws; Unconscious incompetence.  
  • Psychological challenges of leadership: Exploring the leadership of Lincoln and his struggle with depression

Session 7 (Wednesday, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 Noon): Developing a leadership identity

  • Developing a leadership identity: The shift from contributor to facilitator
  • Visit with Al Falkner, President, Gonzaga Preparatory School

            Lunch (12:00-1:00)

Session 8 (Wednesday, 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m.): Leadership in Teams and Groups

  • Leadership style, challenges and possibilities.

 

Closing Activities: 2:30 pm.-4:00 pm.
