Understanding Management & Leadership – This initial session establishes the foundation for the remainder of this management training and development series by clearly defining management roles, expectations and skills necessary to get results with and through others. Managers in this session will learn more about their own personality style and how that impacts the relationship they have with their employees. Managers will also discover the value of building trusting relationships that start with open and honest feedback with their employees.

Avoiding Harassment in the Workplace – Harassment is one of today’s hottest legal and social topics. This workshop will discuss different types of harassment as well as provide direction through case studies. Supervisors will leave being able to distinguish harassing behaviors and will receive tips on eliminating them from the workplace.

Complying with Legal Guidelines – In this workshop you will have the opportunity to learn the areas of employment law that provide a risk of liability not only to your employer but to you, on an individual basis. The course will give you guidance on personnel policies and practices that should assist you in avoiding lawsuits and interference from governmental agencies, but also aid you in building productive employee relations. Also, you will learn how to create documentation to support your actions in hiring, supervising and firing employees.

Becoming an Effective Leader – In this session, we will continue to review your personal management and leadership practices. We will discuss the implications of 360-degree feedback and develop action plans for sharing your feedback with your employees. We will also address personal leadership style issues that can help or hinder you in decision-making situations with your work group. Active discussion around current topics of empowerment, employee involvement, and effective delegation practices will be covered.

Building a High Performance Team – In this workshop, we will cover elements of effective teambuilding and team leadership. A common definition of “TEAM” will be presented that includes the critical stages of team development, various types of teams, common barriers to teamwork and the eight qualities of all successful teams.

Coaching & Developing Employees – During this workshop, we will explore the importance of planning and goal setting and learn how to coach your employees toward improved performance. You will learn the art of giving positive recognition and constructive feedback and learn to address poor performance in a manner that can affect or shape performance. You will be able to coach an employee through a simple skills assessment process and the establishment of professional development objectives and action plans.

Dealing with Performance Problems – During this session, you will explore various causes of poor employee performance and begin to develop action plans for those that are most difficult to address. You will learn a three-step process for addressing performance issues and receive feedback on your ability to constructively address performance issues occurring with your employees.

Communicating & Managing Conflict – During the session, you will have several opportunities to work on the skills you want to improve. You will explore how you handle conflict day-to-day and under stress. And, after practicing a conflict case study, you will write your own conflict case and develop an action plan to resolve it.

Effective Problem Solving – By attending this workshop, you will learn how to use a systematic approach to problem solving that will ensure long-term solutions to problems versus “quick fix” remedies. You will learn a six-step problem solving approach and use key problem-solving tools that will help your team in problem-solving activities. You will also have an opportunity to begin working on an actual problem in your organization.

Selecting the Right People – In this workshop you will have the opportunity to study the hiring “mistakes” of others and learn a systematic approach to hiring the best people. You will learn how an accurate position description can help you select and interview candidates. New ways of looking at selection criteria will be covered. Finally, you will learn an effective interview process and questioning techniques that will help you hire the right people for the job.
