Featuring Sarah Armstrong and Kat Drum

The answer to sustained organizational effectiveness in any industry is not just image or technology. The main ingredient is talent. The ability for an organization to recruit, retain and develop talent, particularly at the leadership level is crucial to success.
This session will feature an opportunity to help you better understand how high performing companies like Starbucks, Microsoft and others win the talent game. Issues facing organizations like generational differences, how to decide whether to “make” or “buy” talent, and winning recruiting and retention “wars” through a blend of a growth oriented culture and soft benefits will be explored.
"Extraordinary Groups: How Ordinary Teams Achieve Amazing Results"
Thursday, March 25th, 7:30am-8:45am
Featuring Kathleen Ryan, Author and Consultant
Doubletree Hotel – Spokane City Center
In today’s work environment, small groups of two to twenty are the way work gets done. A rare number of these groups surpass expectations and inspire the use of words such as amazing, magical or once-in-a-lifetime. What allows some groups to do the exceptional? How do they differ and what can any of us do to intentionally create these extraordinary experiences? Learn from Kathleen Ryan, co-author of “Extraordinary Groups (Jossey-Bass, 2009), about the instinctive and very human needs each person brings to any group (work, community, home), the set of indicators that differentiate exceptional groups, and thoughts about personal transformation within groups.
Kathleen Ryan has practiced organization development since 1984 through The Orion Partnership. Identified as “an organizational consultant with an instinct for translating complex human behavior into practical concepts,” her work focuses on executive coaching and on-boarding and culture change. She serves on the Board of Directors for Seattle University’s Master’s degree program in Organization Design and Renewal. In addition to co-authoring (with Geoffrey Bellman) the book “Extraordinary Groups: How Ordinary Teams Achieve Amazing Results”, Ryan has also co-authored “Driving Fear Out of the Workplace” with Daniel Oestreich (Jossey-Bass, 1998), and “The Courageous Messenger” with Daniel Oestreich and George Orr (Jossey-Bass, 1996).
