Spring 2008 - Leadership and Spirit
April 25 and 26, 2008
Gonzaga University and Seattle University, in partnership with the International Leadership Association (ILA), sponsored the 2008 Spring Leadership Conference at Gonzaga University. The Conference brought together graduate students from the doctoral programs in leadership at the two universities for the second consecutive year to exchange ideas, share research, and build relationships. The theme for the 2008 conference, “Leadership and Spirit,” evoked the notion that leadership is not contained in the individual, but reaches beyond, the past and to the future; to the forces that shape, inspire, and guide.
There were 28 presentations and approximately 70 people attended the conference. The participants from Gonzaga University and Seattle University were joined by individuals from four other higher education institutions in the region. Dr. Linda Hunt, the keynote speaker and distinguished author of Bold Spirit, spoke on "Hemispheres of Hope: Bold Spirited Living and Learning. Father Robert Spitzer S.J., the luncheon speaker, President of Gonzaga University, and author of The Spirit of Leadership: Optimizing Creativity and Change in Organizations shared his perspectives on the spirit of leadership.
The conference provided an opportunity for graduate students to gain experience making presentations and organizing a professional conference. Both programs look forward to the conference next Spring in Seattle and to the continued partnership with the ILA.
