The Post-Master's Certificate in Nursing program is designed for the registered nurse who already possesses a master's degree with a major in nursing, but desires preparation to function in a new role or specialty area. It is structured to meet the needs and schedules of working registered nurses through the same on-campus and distance learning formats used in the master's degree program. The Post-Master's Certificate in Nursing programs consist of 22-32 semester credits and provide both theoretical and clinical application components. In some instances, depending on the learner's background, additional credits may be encouraged or required.All program requirements must be completed within five years of acceptance into and enrollment in the program.

Distinctive features of the Post-Master's Certificate in Nursing program are graduate level academic credits for professional men and women nurses; integration of MSN and certificate PMCN learners in most courses; emphasis on Jesuit inspired values of knowledge, sensitivity, integrity, excellence, and justice; pursuit of humanistic and ethical alternatives to solve contemporary nursing and health care problems; critical reasoning vital to professional judgment and ethical decision making; and study of health care ethics from the perspectives of both an individual and an organization. The curriculum is dynamic and changes may occur on a yearly basis.

Admission: Admission packets may be obtained from the Department of Nursing by contacting 1-800-793-1715 ext 6640, 509-313-6640, or by e-mail at woodm@gonzaga.edu and requesting an application packet.In special circumstances, individuals applying for admission may be permitted to take courses for one semester while the admission process is completed. The designated fee must accompany the application form. Admission decisions are based upon the applicant's total profile and space available. Prerequisite - A master's degree with a major in nursing from an accredited college or university is required. Application deadlines are April 1 for summer or fall semester and November 1 for spring semester. Applications received after the deadlines are considered on a space-available basis. Each applicant must submit the following materials to the Department of Nursing:

1. a completed application form and non-refundable fee of $50;
2. documentation of an earned master's degree with a major in nursing from an accredited college or university;
3. one official transcript from every college and university and nursing school attended;
4. current Registered Nurse license;
5. current professional vita;
6. typewritten statement describing;
   a.interest in the Post-Master's Certificate program and what he/she hopes to gain from the certificate,
   b.professional goals,
   c. strengths,
   d.professional experiences
7. two letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate the applicant's leadership, interpersonal skills, critical thinking and judgement, and professional practice (e.g., employer, professional colleague, professor)
