Graduate Assistantships
The DPLS makes available a limited number of Graduate Assistantships each semester. Gonzaga University policy does not allow Graduate Students to teach courses, so Graduate Assistants perform services for the Program or individual faculty members in return for tuition credit. Each credit of tuition requires approximately 40 hours of service. Documented needs of students traditionally has been more than twice the funding available. Graduate Assistantships are awarded based on need and funding available.
- Doctoral students may be eligible to work as a Graduate Assistant (GA).
- Graduate Assistantship assignments are made on a one-semester basis.
- You will need to re-apply for an assistantship each semester.
- GAs are granted by the DPLS Chair to full-time graduate students.
- All GAs are subject to final acceptance by the Financial Aid Office.
- Graduate Assistants receive an hourly wage and are required to work anywhere from 4 - 10 hours per week for a maximum of 120 hours per semester.
- In order to be eligible for a GA, students must be registered for at least 6 credits during the semester in which the assistantship applies.
- Graduate Assistants who are not performing satisfactorily, or who are on academic probation, will not have their assistantships renewed.
- Graduate Assistant applicants should have completed, or be in the process of completing, the Ph.D. application process.
- To apply for a Graduate Assistantship please complete and submit the GA application form (PDF) by the semester due date.
