CSW Services - What we do

The CSW offers writing consultation services for students up through the candidacy process.  We assist at all points in the writing process, from brainstorming through finished product, with the goal of equipping students to become self-editors.  We focus particularly on issues of coherence and flow as well as compliance with APA and DPLS format.  We can assist with departmental resources, such as the templates, the Red Book, the Blue Book, and the DPLS Checklist for Academic Papers.  We provide referrals to other writing resources, including the Gonzaga writing lab for basic syntax and diction issues and DPLS-approved editors for proofreading and page-by-page editing.

We are not a proofreading service.  Rather, we will take a global look at your paper and provide overall feedback.  We may illustrate our comments by highlighting specific examples from your work, but the bulk of editing remains yours.  For instance, if we notice recurring difficulties in your in-text citations, we may highlight and correct these on a couple of pages, leaving it to you to correct the remainder.  This is in keeping with our goal of equipping students to become self-editors.

The CSW also provides assistance for those interested in submitting papers for publication.  Through this website you will find resources on cover letters and information on locating appropriate venues for your work.

Finally, we are available to answer questions that may arise for you as you write.  Are you wondering how to cite a resource from your Kindle?  Ask us.  Are you curious about the difference between “that” and “which”?  Drop us an e-mail!

The aforementioned services are free and are available virtually (via e-mail) and in person (by appointment).  Hours are flexible and designed to accommodate the needs of DPLS students.
