Performance-Based Teacher Certficate Endorsements

Gonzaga University has been approved by the Office of the Superintendant of Public Instruction to offer the following endorsements.

Requirements for each Endorsement:

  • Competencies: Demonstrate knowledge and skills as described in the endorsement competency documents (see endorsement advising sheets)
  • Content test: September 2005, applicants for endorsements are required to pass a content test (Washington Educator Skills Test – Endorsement (WEST-E) (PRAXIS II) in order to demonstrate content knowledge. (see below)
  • Methods course(s): Related methods coursework in the specific endorsement area
  • Field experience/internship: Complete a minimum of one supervised practicum that includes teaching in a specific endorsement area. For additional endorsement areas, the college will determine the field experience requirement and the extent of that field experience.
  • Pedagogy: The pedagogy assessment instrument is required

Praxis II Test

Effective September 2005, teacher candidates seeking a Residency teacher certificate and all certificated teachers wishing to add an endorsement are required to pass a WEST-E (Praxis II) test for each chosen endorsement. Gonzaga University candidates, who complete their teacher certification program requirements later than August 31, 2005, are subject to this requirement. WEST-E (Praxis II) tests are administered statewide by Educational Testing Service (ETS).
