Brief Biography

Clarence H. "Bud" Barnes began his career as an instructor at Appalachian State University.  Upon completion of doctoral studies, at the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1973, Dr. Barnes joined the faculty of Gonzaga University, as an assistant professor in its School of Business Administration.  He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1979, and for the past thirty-two years has been the Dean of Gonzaga's business school.

The school was initially accredited by AACSB in 1987, reaccredited in 1996, 2006 and again in 2012.  During his tenure, Dean Barnes has seen the undergraduate enrollment grow from 456 students to 1,149 in 2012.  Today the Graduate School of Business at Gonzaga enrolls in excess of 225 graduate students, and offers special graduate degree programs in healthcare administration, and American Indian Entrepreneurship.

Dean Barnes maintains a limited teaching schedule and continues with scholarly contributions within his discipline.  He has served on numerous committees for AACSB and continues to serve as a peer-reviewer for the association.  Additionally, he has served on numerous private and public boards and is often employed in a consulting capacity on issues of economic valuations.
