Hola!
There are seven professors in the Spanish Program at Gonzaga University. As we are a relatively small university, our classes have fewer students than large state universities. Generally in Spanish, the advance'ed classes have an average of 7-10 students. In addition to our language, conversation, and survey classes in Spanish and Spanish-American literature, we provide a breadth of classes for Spanish majors and minors.
We have courses on Latin American Women Writers, Hispanic Film, Contemporary Hispanic Issues, and a service-learning course on the Hispanic Community in the U.S. Many of our courses can be taken in conjunction with the new Latin American Studies Major at G.U. Our Gonzaga Study Abroad programs are located in Granada, Spain and Cuernavaca, Mexico. Some of our students have also studied en Ecuador, Chile, and Costa Rica through programs with other American universities. Some of our recent graduates are now volunteers in the Peace Corps and other international assistance programs; many have become teachers, others have chosen to continue to graduate level studies in Spanish, International Studies, or Latin American Studies. Because of the importance of Spanish in our contemporary cultures and job market, many of our students are double majors, pursuing a Spanish degree as well as one in sociology, biology, journalism, or business. A full description our our course offerings can be found under "Course Descriptions."
