The Chinese Program

Louise and La Shaunda at the entrance to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Beijing China.

Two Chinese programs administered by the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) and by Loyola Marymont University, respectively, offer a one semester or one year intensive program in language, culture, history and business courses in China. The CIEE program is affiliated with 4 prestigious Chinese Universities in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Taipei, offering a wide variety of courses. The Loyola Marymont program is based in Beijing offering business internship opportunities in addition to language and cultural courses. Both programs incorporate extensive field trips and cultural tours to complement the curriculum. Students live in dormitories, often with Chinese roommates. Both programs serve to provide excellent and exciting opportunities for students to experience first-hand 5000 years of rich civilization, and to acquire language skills for the 21st Century. Interested students should have 2 years of Chinese language preparation as well as approval from Gonzaga's Chinese faculty and the Studies Abroad Office.

Student responses to their experience in China:

"My whole experience in China was just amazing. The people, the food, the shopping, the architecture-- I would never trade this experience for anything!" -Lousie Olivares

"Living, working, and studying in China was the most eye-opening experience of my college career. I learned more about myself than I ever could have imagined. I can't explain how it feels to climb the steps to the Great Wall, watch a man fly a kite in Tiananmen Square, or eat in a floating dim sum restaurant in Hong Kong. You have to experience it for yourself!" -Chanda Wong
