The German program offers a minor in German. The lower-division program provides a two-year introduction to the fundamental aspects of German grammar. Students interested in obtaining a minor in German need to take four upper-division courses upon completing German 202. The upper-division classes strengthen writing, reading, and speaking skills and expose students to the history and culture of German-speaking countries such as Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. A number of literature courses offer an introduction to German civilization throughout the ages. Students are also asked to engage intellectually with the achievements and concerns of contemporary Germany through a variety of media (literature, historical texts, films, internet, music, architecture, and painting). The German program strongly encourages students to study Germany in order to improve their linguistic and cultural skills.
"The Gonzaga German program has enabled me to lift my limitations and explore new cultures in the world." -John Miller, sophomore
