Poetry by the Pond

People gather informally by a pond to listen to poetry

Join Us!

Each year we grab some poetry or prose to share with an appreciative audience and rendezvous at the Lake Arthur Amphitheater behind Jepson Center. Anyone can come to listen and enjoy the camaraderie. Check back for this years event date. Everyone is welcome, and we hope to see you there!

Background

2014 marked the inauguration of new tradition for the Classics Club at Gonzaga: the annual Poetry by the Pond. The casual event was originally created many years ago by Dr. Dave Oosterhuis, whose advanced Latin poetry students delivered recitations by the side of Lake Arthur. Members of the Classics Club realized that they could build on this event: Why not read other poetry too, ancient and modern? Why not prose too? Why not indeed? Thus Poetry by the Pond was created. And it was a great success.
