Gonzaga University is an outstanding setting in which to study the environment.  With more than a dozen National Parks, National Forests, and Native American Reservations within less than a day’s drive, Gonzaga has a comparative advantage unmatched by other American institutions of higher learning.

Poised on nature's doorstep, the Environmental Studies Program at Gonzaga connects a community of faculty and students who bring the diverse perspectives of a liberal arts education to bear on issues of human interaction with the natural world.  The Environmental Studies Program offers courses, speakers, and special events aimed at advancing the intellectual understanding of and practical solutions for environmental problems.

The Environmental Studies Program offers an Environmental Studies Concentration (ESC), which consists of a broad, integrated curriculum with a common core of discipline-specific foundational courses complimented by an interdisciplinary capstone seminar.

Students pursuing the ESC have opportunities to undertake Service Learning in the outdoors, work with Environmental Community Partners, and collaborate with GU’s on-campus environmental organizations and resources.  The ESC gives students a solid grounding in environmental studies to help prepare for either continued study or employment in environmentally-related fields after Gonzaga.
