Social and Residential Life
Gonzaga University’s Summer Writing Institute is committed to developing a community of writers.
To that end, students will experience the Institute as a group. They reside in University residence halls, attend courses together, share meals, and attend social activities and readings.
However, students must not only think of themselves as a distinct group. The Institute uniquely provides distinguished Gonzaga University students to serve as residential mentors for Institute students. These mentors will live in the residence halls and attend classes as well, often serving as both role models for a commitment to writing and sounding boards for ideas and challenges.
In addition to mentors, Institute students will be taught by published writers who understand the challenges of maintaining creative discipline. Faculty and mentors complete writing assignments and share successes (and struggles) with students.
Students will also have the opportunity to see Gonzaga’s campus during the busy summer months. The Foley Library Center and Jundt Art Museum are campus destinations for the creative mind. Summer classes are also in session, and the University will be hosting several simultaneous camps for high school students from around the country; It will be an exciting and relaxing time to visit Gonzaga.
