Computer Science

Computer Science graduates from Gonzaga typically work as software engineers. They work to create new software and improve existing programs. Software engineers make a difference in the world by improving communications, medical treatment options, and business applications.

Software Engineers also work on innovations in robotics and gaming. Recent graduates from GU have gone to NASA's Ames Research Center, Google, Microsoft and Boeing.

Why Study Computer Science at Gonzaga University?

Small Class Sizes: Gonzaga students can assist faculty with their research in robotics, sensor networks, speech recognition, mathematical modeling, and databases. These are opportunities normally reserved for graduate students in larger universities.

Outstanding Placement: The Computer Science Department has a placement rate of almost 100% since the department was founded over twenty years ago.

Labs: Gonzaga offers several Computer Science labs including a computer cluster lab built with a $778,000 gift from Intel for conducting large scale computing and the Sensor Networks and Robotics Laboratory (SNARL) which provides students with a hands-on facility for both school-related work and research projects in sensors, computer vision, and robotics. Students also have access to several computer labs dedicated to the Computer Science Department.

Learning with a Purpose: Gonzaga students are combining computer science study with social justice. Computer Science 121 students rebuild donated computers for groups as diverse as elementary schools in Africa and low-income families in Eastern Washington.

How Much Does a Computer Science Graduate Typically Make?

Computer science-related jobs consistently rank in listings of the highest paying jobs. Money Magazine lists Software Engineering as the number one "Best Job in America" with a 46% growth in job market in the next ten years and a median annual salary of $80,427.

According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics' ranking of median salaries. Computer and Information System Managers and Researchers , and Computer Software and Hardware Engineers rank in the top 50 paying jobs with median salaries over $80,000.
