The program is configured to connect with and support the professional responsibilities of a beginning educator while inquiring into the nature of those responsibilities. The program begins summer session I (May) or fall, using a cohort structure for improved personal contact, increased professional relationships, and certification continuity. After the initial course, students pursue a core of development activities determined with university support. A culminating seminar celebrates the accomplishment of the program goals and finalizes the certification process.
Depending on the program core, teachers may require anywhere from six months to two years to reach professional certification. New cohorts form in summer and in fall, and, numbers permitting, will be organized around common assignments (geographical, level, or subject-area). Site-based cohorts, tailored to specific district priorities, may be formed through partnership with the School of Education. In Track 1, Certification Only, the courses are designated as workshop credit at $175.00 per credit.
