The Envoy Coach experience provided many opportunities: A chance to travel and live abroad, experience international baseball and a new culture, improve leadership and coaching skills, and meet new people. But, there is one aspect of this opportunity that is bigger than all of those things. Service. For a short period of time, I was able to give back to this great game that has been responsible for providing me with so many long lasting rewards. And I served the most important group of people involved with the game: the youth.
An Envoy Coach wears a lot of hats. Throughout the course of my assignment, I was fortunate to be comfortable in situations that required knowledge and understanding for business concepts like marketing and sports promotions for sports promotions plans, finance and accounting for grasping league budgets, controls, and appropriations. Above all, the greatest benefit of having completed the MBA program immediately before my departure was the self confidence required to serve in a leadership role in a foreign country. The Gonzaga name as well as the MBA degree carries a lot of weight in this country and around the world. My Gonzaga undergraduate and graduate education, baseball background, and recent international experience working with young people, were the main reasons I was recently appointed Club Coach for the South Perth Cubs in Perth, Australia."
