Philosophy Portal Sites
EpistemeLinks Perhaps the largest and best organized philosophy portal site available on the internet. Includes sorted links to information about great philosophers, e-texts in philosophy, book reviews, philosopher image galleries, philosophy departments, and so forth. The site is commercially supported, so you'll see lots of ads, but the available information is well worth it.
Guide to Philosophy on the Internet (Suber). General link site with info about philosophy web sites, journals, e-texts, and so forth with philosophy-oriented search engines.
Philosophical Societies
American Catholic Philosophical Association Society information, meeting schedules, job resources, and more.
American Philosophical Association The largest and oldest professional philosophy organization in the US is a central source for information on matters philosophical (and membership is a great deal for students). The APA hosts national conferences three times each year: on the East Coast (held in late December between Christmas and New Year's), on the West Coast (held in late March), and in the Central US (held in early May). The website also includes info about Philosophy Departments in the US and (for members) a searchable database of philosophers.
Society of
Christian Philosophers Sponsors of regional philosophy
conferences and of sessions at the national APA meetings, the SCP
publishes the journal Faith and Philosophy.
Philosophy Encyclopedias
Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy A collection of entries on philosophical topics and figures which offers a helpful starting point for orientation. The site also includes a timeline of well-known philosophers (with biographies) and a collection of electronic philosophical texts.
Stanford
Encyclopedia of Philosophy A dymanic (that is,
constantly updated) encyclopedia on topics and figures in
philosophy produced and maintained by scholars in philosophy. While
the encyclopedia is currently "in progress," many of the completed
entries are quite extensive, and some feature links to related
material on the internet. For an interesting look at some of the
more prominent American philosophers today, follow the links on the
Editorial page to information about members of the Editorial
Board.
Research in Philosophy
Humanities Index A basic database tool for articles on topics in the humanities. (Once again, this link might work properly only from the Gonzaga campus.)
