Gonzaga University Wind Symphony
Featuring Student soloist Ben Rosenblatt, piano
Dr. Robert Spittal, director

The 50-piece Gonzaga University Wind Symphony, Dr. Robert Spittal, conductor, will perform a diverse program of works at St.  Aloysius Church on November 20, 7:30PM.  Ben Rosenblatt, a senior piano performance major at Gonzaga, will be the featured soloist on a wind symphony arrangement of  Edvard Grieg’s beautiful Concerto for Piano and Orchestra.  Works by Gustav Holst, Reynaldo Hahn and Giovanni Gabrieli are also on the program, alongside two lighter works by nationally-renowned, Spokane-based composers William Berry and Robert Spittal.

Admission:  Free to Gonzaga Students/Staff;  General Admission $5

Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra
Featuring Guest Violinist Mateusz Wolski

The Spokane Symphony’s concertmaster Mateusz Wolski will perform Paganini’s First Violin Concerto with the Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kevin Hekmatpanah. The concert will take place at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, located at 1001 W Sprague Ave.  This program will also feature Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Verdi’s Grand March from Aïda, and the Danse Bacchanale from Saint-Saëns’ Samson and Dalila.

Mateusz Wolski, first violin, has served as concertmaster for the Spokane Symphony since the fall of 2007. He previously served as concertmaster of the Annapolis Symphony. He has had a distinguished career in the United States and abroad. He came to the U.S. to attend Manhattan School of Music in 1996. It was there, with full scholarship, that he completed his bachelors and masters degrees under the tutelage of Glenn Dicterow, concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. An enthusiastic chamber musician, Wolski has appeared in New York City at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, 92nd Street Y, and the Kosciuszko Foundation. Abroad, his performances have included Wigmore Hall in London and the Mozarteum in Salzburg, as well as numerous engagements throughout Poland, Italy, England and Germany.

General admission is $9, and $7 for non GU students and seniors.  This event is free to the Gonzaga University Community.  Tickets are either available by calling (509) 624-1200 or visiting the ticket office at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox.  For the Gonzaga Community, there is a free shuttle bus that leaves from St. Aloysius Church at 6:40 and 7:05, and will make return trips following the concert.  For more information about this or other Gonzaga Music Department concerts, please call (509) 313-6733.

The Gonzaga University Choir and Chorale will perform Handel’s Messiah, featuring Los Angeles Opera Soloists: Karen Vuong, Soprano; Tracy Cox, Alto;  Kalil Wilson, Tenor; Injoon Yang, Bass.
