Gonzaga Art Department - Kreielsheimer Visiting Artist

ZHANG GUANGHUI

The Art Department proudly presents the 2007 Kreielsheimer Visiting Artist, Zhang Guanghui, from Whuan, China.  His woodcuts will be on exhibit in the Art Department's Kreielsheimer Gallery at Gonzaga University from April 2-6.  A reception honoring the artist followed by a lecture by Guanghui on his work and the art of the Chu Culture of southern China will be held on Thursday evening, April 5 from 7-9pm in the Jundt auditorium. He will be doing a woodcut workshop in the printroom of the art department Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (April 3, 4, 5). 

A reception honoring Guanghui, followed by a lecture "The Chu Culture Art in the South of China and My Creative Experience" on Thursday, April 5th in Jundt room #110 at 7:00pm.

Zhang teaches art at the Hubei Institute of Art in Wuhan, China. He is an expert on the Chu culture of southern China.  Guanghui is among an emerging group of contemporary Chinese artists gaining international recognition.  He heads the printmaking program at the Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in Wuhan, China.  Zhang uses his proficiency with the 2000 year old art of the woodcut to explore social changes as China and the west react to the issues brought about by globalization.
