We were saddened to learn today of the passing of Thomas S. Foley, a beloved alumnus, top GU debater, former professor, and of course, a true American Statesman. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to call him friend.
We are proud that one of the cornerstones of our campus – The Ralph E. and Helen Higgins Foley Center – was completed in 1992 with the help and support of Speaker Foley. He was instrumental in helping us turn the dream of a state-of-the-art facility into a reality – a library center to serve our students, our community, and – through distance learning capabilities – the world beyond our doors. Speaker Foley’s generosity of spirit and appreciation for family motivated him to request the Center be named for his parents. Mr. Foley’s father was a Gonzaga Law professor as well.
Speaker Foley is an essential part of our University fabric and community; and he will forever be a Zag to all of us.
The entire University community extends our sympathies to his wife, Heather, his family and friends, and the countless Americans who join us in mourning his passing.
