Office of the President

Dear Gonzaga Community,

Momentum. Each day that I am on our campus, when I hear stories of our faculty, students, staff and alumni out in the world making a difference, I see the momentum of this place that is becoming -- of a Gonzaga that is changing the world in which we live.

Just last October, we launched Gonzaga Will: The Campaign for Our Future. As we come up on the first anniversary of the largest fundraising campaign in our institution’s history, I am a witness every day to Gonzaga Will in Action. It is one thing to simply say we’re going to do something or provide an answer to a question. It’s another to take on the world’s challenges and meet our community’s needs head-on.

When our region needed engineers, we created a School of Engineering & Applied Science. When we needed attorneys, we opened the doors to Gonzaga University School of Law. And now, when our nation needs medical practitioners more than ever, we enrolled the largest cohort of medical students ever in our region through the UW School of Medicine – GU Regional Health Partnership.
This is momentum.

A year into this campaign, I am honored to share that more than 32,000 members of Zag Nation have made financial gifts toward this effort, resulting in our current progress of $226 million toward our $250 million goal. This is incredible – but our work is not done.

We recently broke ground on our new Center for Athletic Achievement, blessed the site of our future Jesuit Residence and shared with our community our classrooms and labs for our medical students. These are physical manifestations of the support we have achieved through this campaign. It is through your help that we will continue to ensure that a Gonzaga education remains affordable, that our academic and mission foundation is appropriately resourced to our aspiration, that our learning and living facilities are relevant to the demands of delivering an exemplary education, and that we recognize the essential commitment to global engagement.

On behalf of the entire university, I offer our sincerest and humble gratitude. Thank you. We’ve accomplished so much this past year, and yet so much opportunity still lies before us. Leadership doesn’t end with one success, or two, or seven, or 226 million. Leadership keeps going -- it perseveres.

We are so grateful for you and for your belief in our mission. Gonzaga will continue to grow. Gonzaga will continue to find solutions for the challenges of our world. Gonzaga will continue to unfold the potential of our students.
Because of you, Gonzaga Will.

In gratitude,
