The Spiritual Exercises Retreat: Decision-Making for Leadership

printer Printer Friendly

Available Retreat Dates:

January 8-13, 2008
March 10-15, 2008

This retreat experience is designed to give you a fundamental insight about leadership, seen through the experience of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, whereas true leadership is finally about obedience to what the Holy Spirit is already doing in the world "for us and for our salvation." The spirit or servant leader is the one who has learned how to understand the Spirit's movement in the world and in his or her community (family, church, business, club, service organization) and to follow it, successfully persuading others to follow too.

Spirit or servant leadership is largely about getting to good decisions (i.e., according to God's will). Then it is about making those decisions courageously and when it is time (i.e., informed by watching how Christ made key decisions in his life). Finally, it is about winning systematic support for the authentic good needing to be accomplished with creativity and zeal (i.e., the meaning of the Church).

We guide the retreatant through a process of decision-making specifically in accord with the decision-making material of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. To this retreat, therefore, we ask you to bring a significant decision that you wish to make for your life and happiness.

Each day you will meet with your spiritual director: with me, with Fr. Pat Lee, or with another of the corps of Jesuit-trained spiritual directors we supply to you. Fr. Spitzer will join us at the beginning of the retreat and then at the end of it, giving a talk on the last day before the final Mass. Our task will be to guide you through the retreat and to teach you about decision-making according to the Jesuit way of proceeding.

Please let us know if you have any questions, or would like to have more information.
Please know that Scholarships for payment are available.

With sincere regards in Christ,

Fr. Rick Ganz, S.J. ~Director of University Ministry
